Joseph's First Day of Kindergarten

We had something exciting happen the week before school started. My first choice school that we didn't get into called and offered us a spot! We took it right in time for orientation and Kindergarten assessments. The bad part was that Joseph was NOT happy about the switch. We'd already visited the original school and learned his teacher's name and he was not very happy with me. Even the fact that he was in his best friend's class wasn't helping. After a couple of playground visits, a couple of visits to his new classroom and meeting his new teacher, he was finally converted and excited about the new school. Phew! Right in time for school to start.

There were lots of reasons for wanting to be at this school. It has great, tenured teachers, great student test scores and great parent involvement. But my #1 reason was that I could opt to go half day at this school. Of course, the principal and the teacher were less than excited about this decision. There isn't a half day class, I just come pick him up at lunch time. So the teacher has to mess with her schedule and the principal doesn't get my $200 a month. Yep, that's how much it costs to send your child full day. But going half day has been working great and Joseph is loving it!

I had spent quite a bit of time crying about sending him to Kindergarten the week before, so I did surprisingly great when the actual day came. Joseph did great too, he just waved good-bye to us and went on his big boy way. It's going to be a great year.

Those pictures are melting my heart! HE CANNOT BE OLD ENOUGH FOR KINDERGARDEN!!! I'm so proud of him! I love that picture of him and Darren.

I'm feeling emotional about him growing up, so I can't even imagine how you feel!!!! The good news is, you're raising an AMAZING boy!!

Thanks for sharing your husband this week. It was REALLY fun to see darren :)

When I saw the title to this post, I thought, 'No way!' You forget they keep growing after you leave! He'll always be 3 to me.

Cute! I can't believe he just went on his big boy way the first day. And I almost cried just reading about it, so who knows how I'll do when the time comes for Will to go to his first day of school.

How exciting! A half day kindergarten sounds perfect, that's neat they let you come and pick him up at lunch time. He has grown up, hard to believe, the next 12 years of school have begun!

I just had another old moment!!! I remember when Joseph was born! I wish they could just stay young forever. BUT how cute is he? You and Darren are going to be in trouble when he gets older.

Thank heavens for half day kindergarten. I'm so glad we moved so that Taylor doesn't have to go for the full day. How is Justin doing with Joseph being gone? I'm sure he's loving your attention.

Such a great blog! The pictures are priceless and I'm so glad he got to go to the school you wanted.
It was so wonderful to be able to spend time with you last weekend.
Both boys are growing up too fast!
